
Congratulations to the Indoor Track seniors with their parents and friends!





Winter sports teams and the pep band were announced at today's pep rally as we cheer on the girls and boys varsity basketball teams who go head to head with our cross county rivals, Washington High! Girls' game starts at 4:30 with boys at 6:00 pm. It's also senior night with the senior girls and the indoor track seniors honored at halftime of the girls game. The senior boys and cheerleaders will be honored at halftime of the boys game. Come out and show your Crabber Pride!







We also honor Technology Assistant and Coach, Mr. Brett Sanders who said:
Black History Month is a time to celebrate the contributions of individuals and communities that were by and large marginalized by the power imbalances that were present in society. The opportunities, freedom of movement, and overall ability to determine one’s own path (as a black man) as they exist today, were once inconceivable to a person born black in America. This is a time to remember that the impossible is possible when we have a vision and are willing to take risks and get active.
One of my most prominent experiences with a leader of the community was with a former Principal who said to me, when I was leaving to join Teach for America, "to always bring at least one more person along." That statement was an allusion to the underground railroad. He was reminding me that it is not enough to succeed on your own. Your success should be defined by your ability to expose others to paths and opportunities for self-improvement and liberation from generational curses. Any other measure of success is irrelevant.


Today we honor Mrs. Dawn Mitchell, Learning Support Specialist. Here is her info written by Emory Daniels.
Mrs. Mitchell is a Learning Support Specialist. For the meaning of black history month to her she says “The bar has been set, and having this time each year stands as our reminder that we've come too far to go backwards. We are standing on a legacy, with pride, with confidence, with strength, with voices, with achievements and continuing that work with excellence always, in all ways” She lives by the quote: "I am no longer accepting the things I cannot change. Yesterday, juniors and seniors were invited to a presentation by Dr. Rhonda Banks, Director of CEWD at Wor Wic Community College. She gave a presentation on continuing education and workforce development programs at WWCC. This opportunity was organized by Mrs. Faith Daum, guidance counselor.




Last night CAHS hosted the Second Quarter Principal's Honor Roll Dinner. It was a great turnout. Thank you to all the parents, guardians, families and students who attended. Keep up the great work in the classroom!

Mr. Collins is a Behavior Intervention Assistant. Black History month for him means celebrating the success and informing us of the struggles leaders have gone through for us and laid out for the future generations to follow. He is also keeps very busy as Boys Varsity Basketball coach!


Today we recognize Mrs. DeAlma Ward, one of our "cafeteria ladies!" Here is what Payden Ward wrote about her!
Some of you may know Ms. Dealma Ward from her serving you in the cafeteria. Ms. Dealma Ward is a cafeteria aid and loves working with children of all ages, and loves watching them grow. To her Black History Month is a celebration of her ancestors and their excellences, and is a motivation for her to strive for greatness.

For the remainder of February, in recognition of Black History Month, we will be featuring the staff members that we highlighted in a special edition of our school newsletter, the Crabber Insider Extra! Today we start with Ms. Janae Johnson. This piece was written by Alisa Cziuzas.
Ms. Janae Johnson is a Learning Support Specialist & 8th and 9th grade counselor. Ms. Johnson said that to her Black History Month is a time for African Americans to be celebrated and to be recognized for their progresses and accomplishments. It is also a time to celebrate important traditions and cultures and also honor those before us and those making a difference now and those continuing to work toward making a difference. Ms. Johnson has worked in Somerset County Public Schools for 20 years, she has been out of the classroom for 9 years and she says that the thing she misses the most is teaching about Black History. Her favorite quote comes from Maya Angelou: “I have learned that people will forget what you said; people will forget what you did; but people will never forget how you made them feel.”
