Black History month means to me remembering the important people and events in the history of the African diaspora. It also is a time of reverence, homage, and celebration.
Mr. Newborns graduated from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and a master’s degree in Leadership and Administration from Wilmington University. Mr. Newborns has worked in the field of Education for 21 years. He has worked in Higher Education for 15 years and Public Schools for 6 years. Mr. Newborns taught Social Studies World Civilization, Ancient History, Government, and African American Studies. Mr. Newborns favorite quote is…. "Don't aspire to make a living, aspire to make a difference." -Denzel Washington


Today we honor and recognize Ms. DeAuvionne Brittingham, 8th grade Science Teacher. To her, Black History Month is a time to look back at how far the African American community has come and to recognize the leaders and inventors that have paved the way for future generations. She is currently getting her master’s degree and her favorite thing to do is shop!”

Fans who are interested in attending Tuesday's Boys Basketball Playoff game at Crisfield High School, the doors will open at 4:30 p.m. and will close when we reach our capacity or shortly after 5:00 p.m. All tickets are $6.00.


The first play-off game for boys basketball is at home tomorrow, Feb. 27, at 5:00 pm, and the girls play @ Cambridge S. Dorchester on Wednesday at 5:30 pm. Ticket price for all adults and students is $6.

Today we recognize and honor Mrs. Delia Young. Ms. Young
Some of you may know Ms. Young from the halls, or seeing her in classes. Ms. Young is a paraprofessional for special education. Black History month means everything to her. It is her time to celebrate and honor strong black leaders and her ancestors who have paved the way for her. She thanks God every day that she is a part of a beautiful legacy. And one thing about her is that she is an unapologetic queen, with a grateful heart.


We also honor Mr. Greg Bozman Jr.
Physical Education teacher. To him Black History Month is a very meaningful and influential month. It provides a way for him and many other African Americans to acknowledge and celebrate the accomplishments of the key black leaders, past and present, who have paved the way and opened up many doors for African Americans to be successful in our country. He is a graduate of Crisfield Academy and High School, and this is his third year teaching within Somerset Country Public Schools.

Congratulations to our band students who participated today in the Eastern Shore Band Directors Association Solo & Ensemble Festival hosted at Pocomoke High School!

I'm extremely proud to share that all of our groups earned medals with a Superior (I) or Excellent(II) Rating and THREE of the four performing groups earned the ability to compete at STATES!!!" Way to go Pride of Somerset!






On March 5, 2024, SCPS is sponsoring a trip to Wor Wic Community College to tour the Continuing Education/ Workforce Development Programs that Dr. Rhonda Banks presented on February 21st.
Please email or talk to Mrs. Daum for permission slips. 40 students will be attending the trip on a first serve basis. Both WHS and CHS 11th & 12th grades are invited to attend.

Crisfield Academy and High School is a part of an amazing community. This week's students and staff of the week help make Crisfield an even better place.


We also honor Mrs. Edna Johnson!
Ms. Johnson is a paraprofessional and is currently working on her bachelor’s degree in healthcare management and is on the honor roll at Walden University. She is also a woman of God, wife, mother of 5, and grandmother of 10. She loves people and loves learning new things every chance she gets. To Ms. Johnson, Black History Month means the stories, history, accomplishments, heartaches, pains, and legacies that are talked about this month and the fact that people know the truth behind their ancestors lives on and all that they went through for them to be able to live and access and be afforded the same opportunities as everyone else.

Administrative Associate II. Mrs. Brittingham has been with Somerset County Public Schools for 37 years. Black History Month holds value in people’s hearts and is very important in general. Mrs. Brittingham said that Black History Month to her means Honor and is to Celebrate and Appreciate Black Leaders who have made a difference in our lives, she also hopes that as we read more into Black History it will make us all appreciate the culture.


During halftime of the Boys Varsity Basketball game against Washington, the senior cheerleaders and senior boys were recognized with their families and friends! Congrats to all!
