Ms. Sidney Smith is a 9th grade and 11th grade English teacher. Women’s History Month to her means so much to her as for decades of women’s stories and achievements have been largely left out of the curriculum. Now that the curriculum is being changed throughout the classroom, she thinks that we should ask ourselves whose stories are being left out, and how we could elevate and empower female voices.
Mrs. Heather McHenry is an Instrumental Music Director and Music Theatre Teacher and has been here at Crisfield High school for 23 years. To her Women’s History Month means an amazing opportunity for women of all backgrounds to be recognized and highlighted for all of their achievements, contributions, and hard work. It also means that we can celebrate and lift each other up as well as appreciate each other’s achievements. She is proud to be a part of a family of strong, hard-working women who set a wonderful example for her and her daughters to follow. She hopes that she is able to set a similar example for the young women she teaches and is inspired by daily.

Mrs. LuAnn Goldsborough is a special education teacher as well as the 504 case manager, the graduation coordinator, and one of the senior advisors here at Crisfield High. This year marks her 40th year of teaching and she will be retiring this June. To Mrs. Goldsborough, Women’s History Month is a time to celebrate the courageous, determined, and outstanding women that have shaped the world we live in today.
Mrs. Ruthie Todd
Women’s History Month has affected me in the following way: Growing up I had low self-esteem .That all changed when I went to work as an officer at Eastern Correctional Institution. My entering into a man's world gave me courage and a change in the way I looked at myself. I came to realize that I could do different things and accept challenges that would eventually build up my confidence in myself and my abilities.
Mrs. Donna Shores, RN School Nurse
Women's History Month is a month to shine a light on the contributions, innovations, inventions, courage and bravery
by women, for everyone to learn, recognize and celebrate.
Mrs. Georgia Justice is a Math and Science Facilitator. To her Women’s History Month means that we are celebrating the rights and freedom women now have.
Mrs. Susan Corbin
CHS Cafeteria Manager
We all have so much to be thankful for and I have learned in life to trust the Lord and lean on him. I’m thankful for my family, I have 2 daughters and one son, 2 son in laws, 4 grandchildren and a husband to share life with.
Things you might not know about me: I was a girl scout leader for many years, a Sunday school leader, worked at a bank, post office, drug store, flower shop, church secretary, cleaned condos in Ocean City! I have been in food service here for over 14 years!
Mrs. Amanda Lankford is an 11th and 12th grade math and physics teacher at CAHS. She is also the advisor of the Mu Alpha Theta program and the Math Department chair. Her undergraduate degree is in mathematics; she was one of the very few women in the program! She chose to get two masters degrees in education and math in order to continue the same program at a higher level. Her two oldest daughters also graduated with degrees in STEM, where their classes were half men and half women. To Mrs. Lankford, Women’s History Month is a wonderful opportunity to recognize the contribution of women in history, as for most of history, women have been making important contributions, but only in the background with the men they worked with. Today, we have the ability to look at historical records and see where those women worked hard to set us up for the equal rights we have today.
Mrs. Kari Horner is primarily a computer science teacher, she also teachers a year-long semester English teacher and a semester long psychology class. To her Women’s History Month is meant to honor the women who gained equal rights for all women in the United States. She says she is lucky to live in a time where she has no clue what it was like to have to fight to vote, since all she’s ever known is having women’s rights. She would like women to know that they should know their worth and not drag themselves or other women down such as making fun of other women. She believes all women should stick together.
Mrs. Robin Ford, M. Ed.
US History II, 9th Grade, CAHS
28 years Teaching: 17 at CAHS, 8 at WAHS, 3 ALC
I think this is definitely the time to acknowledge and honor the accomplishments of some of the female pioneers who set out to gain equality for all women. The contributions of Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, etc., helped the women's suffrage movement immensely. They were the movers and shakers of their time. Thanks to their tenacity, women were granted the right to vote with the 19th Amendment in 1920. Another famous woman I admire was former slave and abolitionist Harriet Tubman. She made 19 total trips, while risking her own freedom to help free others. The sacrifices of these women are forever embedded in our history. I am forever grateful for their perseverance.
Mrs. Natalie Blizzard
My position is Receptionist, but I help with many other things and where ever needed
Women's History month is a time to celebrate how far women have come. We have come a long way from voting rights to holding CEO positions, we can be astronauts, hold EMS positions, women can serve in the Military & become Officers. The sky is the limit!! I am thankful for the pioneers who paved the way for us. I look forward to seeing what the future holds for the young ladies of today and my younger granddaughters. I love to travel, especially to visit my children and grandchildren in Florida & Western Maryland and do so every chance I get. I also love to make quilts for my family and friends.
Mrs. Leslie Marsh is a paraprofessional here at Crisfield High School. To her Women’s History month is a very special month to her because women have come a long way since the past. The women that have gone on before us would be very proud of the way things are now.

Mrs. Marlena Turner is a community school liaison at Crisfield High. To Mrs. Turner, reflecting on the contributions of women throughout history during Women’s History Month reminds me of those who challenged societal expectations and resisted inequalities, as women have and continue to be pivotal in making systemic changes in our society through civil rights, health care, education, and gender equality. Mrs. Turner has so much admiration for the women who were brave enough to step forward for what was right and not what was easy and thinks that Women's History Month challenges us to think about how we can make change and be part of moving our society forward.
Ms. Kathy Thomas is a special education paraprofessional who strives everyday to be a woman that girls can look up to; if she can be a positive influence on even one girl, she has accomplished something. To her, Women’s History Month means celebrating not only women from the past who have accomplished amazing things, but also those who are doing so today.
Mrs. Randi Merritt
I teach World History and Contemporary Issues CHS. I have taught in Virginia and Maryland for a total of 43 years. I am truly blessed to be married and have two daughters and 4 grandchildren ranging in age from 8-17. They are my life. My faith keeps me grounded in this world we live in today. I have lots of hobbies: photography, scrapbooking, embroidery, and anything that involves using my Cricut.
Women's History Month gives us a chance to reflect on all the amazing women who have come before us that have made life altering contributions that have changed the way women are viewed today. They have inspired us to stand for what we believe is true. Seeing what other women have accomplished gives other women the hope that they can achieve their goals as well.
Mrs. Anna Breland is a World Languages and Mass Communications teacher. To her Women’s History Month is a celebration of all of the greatest achievements and accomplishments done by women. One thing she would like you to know about her is that she is from Belarus and March 8, International Women’s Day, is a national holiday there. On this day everyone has a day off and there are free concerts and events and fun activities all around the country to honor women.
